LG dryer not tumbling or not starting

If an LG dryer runs but the drum does not turn, the drum belt has usually broken or slipped off the idler pulley. If nothing happens when you press Start, check the door switch (dE), child lock, the lint filter (F0/IF) and the thermal fuse. Belt repairs typically cost $180 to $260.

Runs but the drum does not turn

With the dryer unplugged, open the door and turn the drum by hand. If it spins very freely with no resistance, the belt is broken. If it will not turn, a roller or the blower may be jammed.

Will not start

  1. Is CL (child lock) on? Hold the child lock button 3 seconds.
  2. Is the lint filter fully inserted? (F0 / IF)
  3. Does the drum light come on when the door opens? If the door switch fails, dE appears and the dryer will not start.
  4. Check the breaker and outlet.

When to call

Broken belt, motor hum without movement, dE that will not clear, or a dryer that is completely dead. See LG dryer repair.
