The LG direct-drive motor
LG front loaders use a direct-drive motor: a stator bolted to the back of the tub and a rotor attached to the drum shaft — no belt. A small rotor position (hall) sensor tells the board where the rotor is. When that sensor fails, the washer hums, twitches and shows LE — a $180 to $290 repair, not a new motor. We test the sensor, the stator windings and the wiring before replacing anything.
The drain pump filter: check it first
Most OE errors and many smells come from a clogged drain pump filter. It is behind the small access door at the bottom front of the washer. Put down towels and a shallow pan, drain the water through the small hose, then unscrew the filter. Coins, hair ties, sock lint and bobby pins are normal finds. Full steps: LG washer not draining.
Why LG washers struggle in Las Vegas
Our very hard water leaves scale on the heater, valves and drum, and makes people use more detergent — which creates suds that trigger SUD, slow drains and smell. Use HE detergent at the low line, run Tub Clean monthly and leave the door ajar between loads. More: hard water and LG appliances.

Totals include parts, labor and the $75 service call. Ranges reflect a typical repair and do not include extra work caused by difficult access — for example a built-in or tightly installed appliance, removing trim, cabinetry or other appliances, or additional disassembly and reassembly of the appliance itself. The final price also depends on the supplier's current part price, which changes with market and import conditions. Your exact price is quoted in writing after diagnosis, before any work starts. 90-day labor warranty; 1-year manufacturer warranty on parts.

LG front load washer questions
Why is my LG front load washer not draining?
Most often the drain pump filter is clogged. A kinked or blocked drain hose and a failed drain pump are next. The washer shows OE when water does not drain within the expected time.
Why does my LG washer not spin?
The most common reasons are an unbalanced load (UE), a small load of heavy items, worn shock absorbers, or a failed rotor position sensor (LE). Try a balanced load first; if it still will not spin, book a diagnosis.
Is it worth fixing an LG front load washer?
Usually yes. Most LG front load washer repairs cost $180 to $350. A bearing failure is the exception: on LG front loaders it usually means a new outer tub assembly at $420 to $830 so on an older washer replacement can make more sense — we will tell you honestly.
How do I fix the dE error on my LG washer?
Make sure nothing is caught in the door and the door closes firmly. If dE stays on with the door closed, the door lock assembly or its wiring has failed — usually a $180 to $320 repair.
How often should I clean my LG washer?
Run the Tub Clean cycle about once a month (when tCL appears), clean the drain pump filter every few months, and wipe the door gasket after use.
