Where the condenser is on an LG refrigerator
On LG French-door, side-by-side and bottom-freezer refrigerators, the condenser coil sits in the machine compartment at the bottom rear, next to the compressor, cooled by a condenser fan. It is reached from the back after removing the lower rear cover. Part of the heat is also released through tubing inside the cabinet walls.
Condenser problems we see in Las Vegas
- Dirty coil — dust, pet hair and lint block airflow. In a 110 °F summer, a clogged condenser can push an LG refrigerator over the edge. Fix: cleaning.
- Failed condenser fan — shows as Er CF on many LG models, or a refrigerator that warms up in hot weather. Fix: fan motor, $180 to $330.
- Leaking condenser — corrosion or damage from moving the refrigerator. Fix: condenser replacement with a new drier, vacuum and weighed charge, $500 to $990.
- Leak in the cabinet hot-gas loop — the tubing foamed into the cabinet that keeps door edges from sweating. It cannot be replaced; we bypass it and recharge.
The replacement
- Confirm the leak at the condenser with pressure and leak testing.
- Recover or safely vent according to refrigerant type; our technicians are EPA Section 608 certified.
- Replace the condenser, install a new filter-drier.
- Braze under nitrogen, pressure test, deep vacuum, weighed charge.
- Run test with power-draw and temperature checks.

| Linear or inverter compressor replacement | $650 – $1,270 | Sealed system: new drier, evacuation and recharge included |
| Refrigerant leak repair + recharge | $350 – $940 | Depends on leak location and access |
| Evaporator replacement | $550 – $1,100 | Sealed system: new drier, evacuation and recharge included |
| Condenser replacement | $500 – $990 | Sealed system: new drier, evacuation and recharge included |
Totals include parts, labor and the $75 service call. Ranges reflect a typical repair and do not include extra work caused by difficult access — for example a built-in or tightly installed appliance, removing trim, cabinetry or other appliances, or additional disassembly and reassembly of the appliance itself. The final price also depends on the supplier's current part price, which changes with market and import conditions. Your exact price is quoted in writing after diagnosis, before any work starts. 90-day labor warranty; 1-year manufacturer warranty on parts.
Keep your LG condenser healthy
Unplug the refrigerator and vacuum the condenser coil and fan area twice a year — before summer and before the holidays. Leave the ventilation clearance LG specifies in your manual and never block the bottom front grille or rear cover vents.
Condenser questions
How do I know if my LG condenser fan has failed?
Listen at the back bottom of the refrigerator while the compressor runs: you should hear a fan. If the compressor area is very hot and the fan is not turning, or the display shows Er CF, the fan has likely failed.
Can a dirty condenser stop my LG refrigerator from cooling?
Yes, especially in Las Vegas summers. A blocked condenser makes the compressor run hotter and longer and can trigger overheating shut-offs. Cleaning it is the cheapest maintenance you can do.
How much is condenser replacement on an LG refrigerator?
Typically $500 to $990 in Las Vegas and Henderson, including drier, vacuum, refrigerant, labor and the $75 service call.
