LG refrigerator problems we fix every week
LG refrigerators are efficient and quiet, but they have a few well-known weak spots. Because we only repair LG, we see the same patterns over and over — and we know which test confirms each one.

Sealed-system work: compressors, evaporators, condensers, leaks
Many repair companies stop at fans and boards and tell you a refrigerator with a sealed-system problem is "not worth fixing." We don't. Every one of our technicians holds EPA Section 608 certification, which is required by law to handle refrigerant. That lets us complete the full job in your kitchen:
- LG linear and inverter compressor replacement — $650 to $1,270
- Refrigerant leak repair and recharge — $350 to $940
- Evaporator replacement — $550 to $1,100
- Condenser replacement — $500 to $990
Every sealed-system job includes a new filter-drier, a nitrogen pressure test, a deep vacuum and a refrigerant charge weighed to the amount on the LG rating label. On a 4- to 8-year-old LG French-door refrigerator, that is usually a fraction of the cost of a comparable new unit.
Ice maker and water dispenser repair
The ice maker in the door of most LG French-door refrigerators is the single most common reason LG owners call us. It lives in an insulated "ice room" cooled by air ducted from the freezer through the left fresh-food wall. When the duct, the ice-room fan or the door seals let in moisture, frost builds up, the fan stalls and you see Er IF — or simply no ice. We fix the cause, not just the symptom. Details: LG ice maker repair.
Why LG refrigerators struggle in Las Vegas
- Heat. Summer kitchen temperatures and garage refrigerators push the compressor to run almost nonstop. A dusty condenser or a weak condenser fan shows up first in June and July. Clean the condenser coils (behind the bottom grille or rear panel) twice a year.
- Hard water. Las Vegas water is very hard. Scale clogs water valves and dispenser lines and shortens ice maker life. Change the water filter on schedule; see our hard water guide.
- Monsoon power surges. Summer storms cause outages and surges that damage control and inverter boards. A quality surge protector is cheap insurance.

Totals include parts, labor and the $75 service call. Ranges reflect a typical repair and do not include extra work caused by difficult access — for example a built-in or tightly installed appliance, removing trim, cabinetry or other appliances, or additional disassembly and reassembly of the appliance itself. The final price also depends on the supplier's current part price, which changes with market and import conditions. Your exact price is quoted in writing after diagnosis, before any work starts. 90-day labor warranty; 1-year manufacturer warranty on parts.
Recent LG refrigerator repair cases
Ice maker stopped, Er IF on the display
- Symptom
- No ice for a week, a layer of frost inside the door ice compartment, Er IF flashing.
- What we found
- Frost had sealed the ice-room fan blade; the door gasket on the ice compartment was torn at the hinge corner, letting humid kitchen air in.
- What we did
- Defrosted the ice room and duct, replaced the ice-room fan and the ice compartment gasket, verified airflow and a full harvest cycle.
- Result
- Ice production back the same evening; no frost at the 90-day check.
Customer paid $340 (includes the $75 service call)
Fridge warm, freezer cold
- Symptom
- Fresh-food section at 52 °F, freezer still at 0 °F, water pooling under the crisper drawers.
- What we found
- Evaporator completely iced over; the defrost heater measured open, so the coil never defrosted and the air path to the fridge side was blocked.
- What we did
- Manually defrosted the evaporator, replaced the defrost heater (with its attached sensor), cleared and flushed the defrost drain.
- Result
- Fresh-food at 37 °F the next morning; normal defrost cycles confirmed.
Customer paid $350 (includes the $75 service call)
Both sections warm, compressor clicking
- Symptom
- Everything warming over two days, a click from the back every few minutes.
- What we found
- Inverter board was sending power, but the linear compressor would not start; windings out of range. Sealed system otherwise tight.
- What we did
- EPA 608 compressor replacement: new linear compressor and filter-drier, brazed under nitrogen, pressure tested, deep vacuum, R-600a charge weighed to the rating label.
- Result
- Freezer at −1 °F and fridge at 37 °F within 18 hours.
Customer paid $1,070 (includes the $75 service call)
How the visit works
- Diagnosis. We read stored codes in LG test mode, check temperatures at the evaporator and condenser, measure fan and compressor operation and, where needed, check sealed-system performance.
- Written quote. One price for parts and labor. The $75 service call is credited when you approve.
- Repair. Fans, sensors, valves, boards and ice makers are usually fixed the same visit. Sealed-system jobs are often same-day or next-day.
- Verification. We confirm temperatures are coming down and give you a 90-day labor and 1-year parts warranty.
LG refrigerator repair questions
Is it worth repairing an LG refrigerator?
Usually yes. Most LG refrigerator repairs cost $180 to $520 far less than a new French-door refrigerator. Even a compressor replacement at $650 to $1,270 is worth it on a refrigerator that is otherwise in good shape and under about 10 years old.
Why is my LG refrigerator not cooling but the freezer works?
The most common LG cause is ice blocking the evaporator or the air passage to the fresh-food section after a defrost failure. A failed fresh-food fan or a stuck damper are next. If the freezer is also getting warm and the compressor clicks, suspect the compressor or inverter board. See LG refrigerator not cooling.
Do you replace LG linear compressors?
Yes. Our EPA 608 certified technicians replace LG linear and inverter linear compressors in your home, including a new drier, nitrogen pressure test, deep vacuum and weighed refrigerant charge. Many LG compressors carry an extended LG parts warranty — we check that for you.
How long does an LG refrigerator repair take?
Most repairs take 1 to 2 hours. Defrosting an iced-over evaporator adds time. Sealed-system repairs take 3 to 5 hours.
Can you fix the ice maker on an LG InstaView or Craft Ice refrigerator?
Yes. We repair door ice makers, in-freezer ice makers, Craft Ice makers, ice-room fans and the ducts and seals that cause ice buildup.
What does Er IF mean on my LG refrigerator?
Er IF means the main board stopped getting a signal from the ice compartment fan — usually because ice has built up around the fan blade, or the fan motor has failed. See all LG refrigerator error codes.
