LG induction cooktop not heating

An LG induction zone that will not heat usually does not detect the pan — it must be magnetic and cover most of the ring. Next check Pet Safe (PEt) or lock mode. Zones that shut off after a few minutes often have a blocked or failed cooling fan (FE). Sensor and inverter board codes need a technician.

Safe checks

  1. Magnet test. A fridge magnet must stick firmly to the pan bottom.
  2. Pan size. The base should cover most of the ring.
  3. Locks. PEt mode or the lock icon disables the controls. On models with LOCK and TURBO keys, pressing both toggles Pet Safe.
  4. Controls clean and dry. Water or a pan on the controls causes d0 or 4 blinks.
  5. Airflow. Make sure drawers and cabinet items do not block the vents under the cooktop.

Normal induction sounds

A light hum or buzz at high power, a fan running after you turn it off, and clicking when zones cycle are normal.

When to call

FE that returns with clear vents, F-codes, a zone that never detects a magnetic pan, or a breaker that trips. See LG cooktop repair and LG cooktop error codes.
