Electric LG ranges
- Bake element. Look at the lower element (or behind the rear panel on hidden-element models). Blisters, a break or a burn spot mean it has failed.
- Breaker. If the cooktop works only on some burners and the oven is cold, one leg of the double breaker may be tripped.
- Sensor. A failed oven sensor stops heating and may show F1/F2.
- Relay. If the element and sensor test good, the relay on the main board that powers the element has failed.
Gas LG ranges
LG gas ovens use a hot-surface igniter. It must draw enough current to open the oven safety valve. As it ages it still glows orange but no longer opens the valve — or opens it only after a long delay. Symptoms: 30–60 minute preheats, gas smell briefly before ignition, or no flame at all. Replacing the igniter fixes it ($180 – $340).
Safe checks
- Reset power: breaker off for 5 minutes.
- Make sure the oven is not in Sabbath mode (SB), a timed or delayed cook, or child lock.
- Electric: inspect the bake element. Gas: watch the igniter through the bottom slot — does it glow? Does the flame light within about 90 seconds?
When to call
No heat after a power reset, a damaged element, an igniter that glows without lighting, or any F-code. See LG range repair.
Questions
Why is my LG gas oven taking forever to preheat?
The oven igniter is weak. It glows but takes a long time to open the gas valve. A new igniter restores normal preheat times.
What does F9 mean on my LG oven?
On most current LG ranges F9 means the upper oven is not heating. On a few older models it means "too hot." We confirm the meaning for your model during diagnosis.
