Most likely causes
- Lid lock. The washer will not agitate until the lid locks. Listen for the click after Start; see dE / dL errors.
- Foreign object (LE1). LG top loaders detect objects trapped between the impeller and inner tub. Run Spin only, empty the tub and feel around the impeller edge.
- Clutch actuator. The shift actuator switches the drive between wash and spin. When it sticks you may hear clicking and the washer stops, sometimes logging E6.
- Motor (LE). The motor cannot turn — sensor, stator, wiring or a jammed tub.
- Impeller hub. The impeller turns freely by hand without the tub moving — the hub splines are worn.
Safe checks
- Remove the load and run Rinse + Spin empty.
- Unplug for 5 minutes, then restart.
- Make sure nothing is caught under the lid.
When to call
LE, E6, clicking at the start of wash, or an impeller that slips. See LG top load washer repair.
Questions
Why does my LG top load washer fill but not agitate?
Most often the lid does not lock, an object is jammed under the impeller, or the shift actuator is stuck.
