Before anything else
- Press Power off, unplug the washer for 5 minutes, plug it back in.
- For water codes, check that both faucets behind the washer are fully open and the drain hose is not kinked.
- Run Rinse + Spin with an empty drum. If the code returns, use the tables below.
Water, drain and fill codes
| Code | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| OE | Drain error — water did not drain in time | Clean the drain pump filter (front load: bottom-front access door). Check the drain hose for kinks and make sure its end is no higher than 96 inches. If the pump hums but does not drain, or is silent, the drain pump needs replacing. |
| IE | Inlet error — not enough water entered | Open both faucets fully, check hoses for kinks, clean the inlet screens. Household pressure must be at least 20 psi. If water is on, the inlet valve or pressure sensor is suspect. |
| FE | Overfill — water level too high | Unplug immediately if water keeps coming in. Usually a water inlet valve stuck open; oversudsing can also trigger it. Call for repair. |
| PE | Pressure (water level) sensor error | Sensor, its hose (a pin-hole leak) or harness. Running Tub Clean can help if suds caused it; otherwise call. |
| AE | Leak error (front load) — water detected where it should not be | Look under the washer and at the door boot and hoses; on heat pump WashCombo models the meaning differs. Call for repair if water is found inside the cabinet. |
| dr | Drain feature — not an error | The washer was paused or idle for 4–8 minutes, so it is draining automatically. |
| SUD | Too many suds detected — washer adds a suds-reducing routine (about 2 extra hours) | Use HE detergent only, at the low line. In Las Vegas hard water, people often overdose. |
Spin, motor and balance codes
| Code | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| UE / uE | Unbalanced load — the washer could not balance the load and stopped spinning | Redistribute the load; add towels to a single heavy item; avoid mixing heavy and light items; level the washer. If it happens on every load, check the shocks (front load) or suspension rods (top load). |
| ub | Information only — the washer is rebalancing | No action needed. If it never finishes, treat it like UE. |
| LE | Locked motor — the motor cannot turn | Check that the drum turns freely by hand (power off). On LG direct-drive washers the usual fault is the rotor position (hall) sensor, then the stator or wiring; a foreign object between tubs is possible. Call for repair. |
| LE1 | Top load: foreign object (coin, pin, clip) caught under the pulsator | Run Spin only to drain, then remove the load and search the tub. If it repeats, the pulsator must be removed. |
| E6 | Top load: clutch (shift) motor error | Grinding or clicking may mean an object under the pulsator; otherwise the shift actuator has failed. Call for repair. |
| CE | Over-current — motor drew too much current | Check for an overloaded drum. If it repeats, call — motor, stator or board. |
| bU / US | Heavy vibration / vibration sensor error | Level the washer, check shocks; sensor or harness fault if it continues. |
Door and lid codes
| Code | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| dE | Door open error — the board does not see a closed door switch | Close the door firmly; remove clothing caught in the gasket; check for a warped or misaligned door. Repeated dE means the door lock assembly or wiring. |
| dE1 | Door open — interlock switch not detected closed | Door lock assembly or its wiring; call if closing firmly does not fix it. |
| dE2 | Door not locked — door lock switch not detected locked | Door lock assembly, latch or wiring. |
| dE4 | Door sensor malfunction inside the lock assembly | Replace the door lock assembly. |
| dL | Top load: lid not locked | Close the lid firmly; check for items under the lid. If the lock is heard but dL remains, the lid lock assembly has failed. |
| OPn | Dispenser drawer open (ezDispense models) | Push the drawer fully closed; check it for damage. |
| LOE | Detergent lid open — washing paused | Close the detergent lid tightly. |
Temperature, power and board codes
| Code | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| tE | Thermistor (water temperature sensor) error | Sensor or harness out of range. Call for repair. |
| tE1 – tE5 | Heat pump WashCombo thermistor errors (duct, compressor inlet, evaporator) | Call for repair. |
| dHE | Dry heater error (washer-dryer combo) | Heater, thermostat or dry fan circuit. Call for repair. |
| F1 | Combo: drum temperature too high — not enough airflow | Clean the lint filter and condenser. |
| LE2 / LE3 | Combo: compressor not running / drying fan locked | Call for repair. |
| PS | Supply voltage not correct | Washer needs 120 V AC ±10%. Check the outlet; call an electrician if voltage is wrong. |
| PF | Power failure during a cycle | Not a part failure. Press Power and restart. Frequent PF can mean a loose outlet connection. |
| EE | EEPROM (control memory) error | If EE appears in test mode at the first press of Start, the main board needs replacing. |
| nE / nF / nC / nU | Modem, Wi-Fi or NFC module messages (test mode only) | Router or module issue; washing is not affected. |
| ED1 – ED5 | ezDispense detergent/softener not dispensing, pump open circuit, or communication error | Clean hardened detergent from the ezDispense reservoir; pump or board if it continues. |
Not error codes
| Code | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| tCL | Tub Clean reminder (blinks every 1–2 months) or Tub Clean running | Run the Tub Clean cycle with an empty drum. |
| CL | Control (child) lock is on | Press and hold the Child Lock button (often shared with another button) for 3 seconds. |
| Cd | Cool down at the end of a drying cycle (combo models) | Normal; open the door any time. |
| FF | Freeze failure — water froze in the pump or hoses | Rare in Las Vegas; thaw with warm water in the drum and let it drain. |
| UP | ThinQ feature update available | Update in the LG ThinQ app. |
When to call
LE, PE, FE, repeated dE/dL, CE, tE and EE need a technician. OE that returns after you clean the filter usually means a failing drain pump. We carry LG drain pumps, door locks and rotor sensors on our trucks — see LG front load washer repair and LG top load washer repair.
LG washer error code questions
How do I fix OE on my LG washer?
Unplug the washer, drain the remaining water through the small hose at the bottom-front access door, then unscrew and clean the drain pump filter. Check that the drain hose is not kinked. If OE returns with a clean filter, the drain pump has likely failed.
What does UE mean on an LG washer?
UE means the load is unbalanced and the washer stopped spinning to protect itself. Redistribute the clothes, add a few towels to a single heavy item, and make sure the washer is level.
What does LE mean on an LG washer?
LE means the motor is locked or cannot turn. On LG direct-drive washers it is most often a failed rotor position sensor, sometimes the stator, wiring or an object between the tubs.
How do I reset my LG washer?
Unplug it for 5 minutes, plug it back in, then run Rinse + Spin. There is no hidden reset button; if a code returns, there is still a fault.
