What the codes mean
- dE — the board does not see the door switch closed.
- dE1 — interlock switch not detected closed.
- dE2 — door lock switch not detected locked.
- dE4 — door sensor inside the lock assembly malfunctioned; LG's fix is a new lock assembly.
- dL (top load) — lid not locked.
Safe checks
- Open the door or lid, remove anything in the gasket or under the lid edge, and close it firmly until it clicks.
- Look at the door strike (the hook on the door) for damage.
- Unplug for 5 minutes, then try again.
- Front load: listen at Start — you should hear the lock click within a few seconds.
Door stuck locked?
LG washers keep the door locked while there is water in the drum or the drum is still turning. Wait a few minutes after the cycle ends. If water is in the drum, drain it (see not draining). Never force the door — the lock or the door hinge breaks.
When to call
The code returns with the door firmly closed, the lock never clicks, or the door is stuck locked with an empty, drained drum. See front load washer repair.
Questions
Can I bypass the door lock on my LG washer?
No. The lock prevents the door from opening while the drum spins at high speed. Replace a failed lock instead.
How much does an LG washer door lock replacement cost?
Typically $180 to $320 in Las Vegas and Henderson, including the $75 service call.
