Match the noise
| Noise | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Banging in spin, washer moves | Leveling, worn shocks or suspension rods |
| Loud from day one | Shipping bolts still installed |
| Metallic scraping or clicking | Coin, key or bra wire between drum and tub |
| Roar that gets louder with speed | Tub bearing |
| Hum, no movement | Motor or rotor sensor issue (see LE) |
Safe checks
- Level the washer — all four feet firm, lock nuts tight.
- On a new install, confirm the shipping bolts (rear panel) were removed.
- Spin the empty drum by hand and listen for scraping.
- Run a small, balanced load.
About LG tub bearings
On many LG front load washers the bearings are pressed into the outer tub, so the practical repair is a new tub assembly — typically $420 to $830. On older washers we will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.
When to call
Constant banging after leveling, any roar or grind, or a washer that walks on every load. See front load washer repair.
Questions
Why does my LG washer bang during the spin cycle?
Usually an unbalanced load or worn shock absorbers (front load) or suspension rods (top load). Check leveling first.
Is a loud LG washer bearing worth fixing?
On newer or premium LG washers, usually yes. On washers older than about 8–10 years, compare the repair to replacement — we will give you both numbers.
