LG front load washer smells — how to fix it

Clean it in 30 minutes

1. Door boot: pull back the folds and wipe with a diluted bleach solution (follow your bleach label) or a washer cleaner. Remove hair and debris.
2. Drain pump filter: drain and clean it as in LG washer not draining.
3. Dispenser drawer: pull it out (press the release tab) and rinse it; scrub the housing.
4. Tub Clean: run the Tub Clean cycle with an empty drum. When tCL blinks, LG is reminding you.

Prevent it

• Use HE detergent at or below the line — more is not cleaner, especially in Las Vegas hard water.
• Wash a hot load occasionally.
• Leave the door and dispenser ajar after each load.
• Remove wet clothes promptly.

When to call

The smell returns within days after cleaning, or the boot is torn or stained black. A sewer smell can mean a drain or standpipe problem. See front load washer repair.
