Most likely causes
- Settings. 37 °F is a good fresh-food setting. Check that Express Cool or Ice Plus is not stuck on.
- Blocked vents. Cold air enters the fresh-food section from vents at the back and top. Items pushed against them freeze; the rest of the shelf may still be fine.
- Sensor. If the fresh-food thermistor reads warmer than reality, the control keeps cooling. A fully failed sensor shows Er rS.
- Damper / multi-duct. On models with a damper, one stuck open lets too much freezer air in.
Safe checks
- Put a thermometer in a glass of water on the middle shelf for 24 hours.
- Move food 2–3 inches away from the back wall vents.
- Reset the set temperature and power-cycle the refrigerator.
When to call
Water in a glass measures below 33 °F with the setting at 37 °F, or Er rS appears. See LG refrigerator repair.
Questions
What should my LG refrigerator be set to?
37 °F for the fresh-food section and 0 °F for the freezer.
Why does only the back of my LG fridge freeze food?
The cold-air vents are at the back. Food touching them freezes. Leave a gap so air can circulate.
