LG refrigerator water dispenser not working

When an LG water dispenser stops or slows, check the water filter first (a new filter that is not fully seated, or an old clogged one), then the supply valve. If the ice maker still makes ice, the water line inside the door may be frozen. If neither ice nor water work, the water inlet valve or flow meter (Er gF) is the likely cause.

Most likely causes

  1. Filter. Las Vegas hard water clogs filters faster than the 6-month reminder. A new filter that is not turned fully into place blocks flow completely.
  2. Frozen door line. The tube to the dispenser runs through the door. If the freezer is set very cold or the door is opened a lot, the line can freeze. Ice works, water does not.
  3. Supply. The valve behind or under the refrigerator is partly closed, or household pressure is low (LG needs at least 20 psi).
  4. Inlet valve. The solenoid valve at the back bottom fails, or scale blocks its screen. No water and no ice.
  5. Flow meter. LG models with a flow meter show Er gF when no flow is measured.

Safe checks

  1. Remove the filter and try the dispenser — some models have a bypass, others will not dispense without a filter. Re-install firmly.
  2. Dispense for 2 minutes to purge air after a filter change.
  3. Check the supply valve is fully open.
  4. If you suspect a frozen line, set the freezer a few degrees warmer for a day.

When to call

No water and no ice with a fresh filter, Er gF that returns, or a dispenser that is completely dead (no light, no sound). See LG refrigerator repair.

LG water dispenser questions

Why is my LG water dispenser slow after changing the filter?

Air in the line, or the filter is not fully seated. Dispense for 2 minutes, then remove and re-install the filter firmly.

Why does my LG ice maker work but the water dispenser does not?

The water line inside the door is most likely frozen, or the dispenser side of the inlet valve has failed.
