Water and drain codes
| Code | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| OE | Drain error — water did not leave the tub | Clean the filter and sump; check the air gap and the garbage disposal (a new disposal's knockout plug may still be in place); straighten the drain hose. If the pump is silent or hums, the drain pump has failed. |
| IE | Water inlet error — not enough water entered | Make sure the hot-water valve under the sink is fully open and the inlet hose is not kinked. Household pressure must be at least 20 psi. Otherwise the inlet valve or flow meter. |
| FE | Overfill — too much water supplied | The drain pump runs to remove the water. Usually an inlet valve stuck open or a flow meter fault. Call for repair. |
| AE | Leak error — the float switch detected water in the base pan | Check for oversudsing (wrong detergent) and visible leaks. The water source must be found and fixed: door seal, sump gasket, hose or valve. |
| E1 | Leak error (some models) — same as AE | Same as AE. |
| bE | Bubble error — too much foam | Never use hand dish soap. Use automatic dishwasher detergent only. Wipe out suds, run a rinse. Foamy food (whipped cream) can also cause it. |
Motor, heater and sensor codes
| Code | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| LE | Locked motor — wash (circulation) pump motor error | Check the filter and sump for glass or bones jamming the pump. If clear, the wash motor or its circuit needs service. |
| HE | Heater error — water not heating, or tub over 194 °F | Run the kitchen tap until hot before starting. If incoming water is below 120 °F, adjust the water heater. Otherwise the heater circuit. |
| tE | Thermistor error — water temperature sensor open or shorted | Call for repair. |
| nE | Vario (spray diverter) motor error | Diverter motor or its switch; call for repair. |
| F31 | Heated air-dry fan not running | Dry fan motor or board signal; call for repair. |
| F35 | Heated air temperature sensor out of range | Sensor or dry heater; call for repair. |
| F37 | Auto Open Dry motor error | Door auto-open motor or wiring; call for repair. |
Power and control codes
| Code | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| PF | Power failure — power was interrupted during a cycle | Not a part failure. Restart the cycle. Frequent PF may mean a loose connection at the junction box. |
| CL | Control (child) lock is on | Press and hold the button marked with the lock icon for 3 seconds (the button varies by model — see your manual). |
Not error codes
| Code | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| L0 – L4 | Rinse aid level setting | Set level 3–4 for Las Vegas hard water. |
| P1 – P10 | Downloaded cycle number (ThinQ) | Normal. |
| UP | ThinQ feature update available | Update in the LG ThinQ app. |
When to call
AE that returns after drying the base, LE, HE, tE, nE, FE and any F-code need a technician. OE with a clean filter usually means a drain pump. See LG dishwasher repair — $75 service call, credited toward the repair.
LG dishwasher error code questions
How do I reset my LG dishwasher error code?
Turn off the breaker (or unplug) for 5 minutes, then restore power. If the code returns on the next cycle, fix the cause it points to.
What does AE mean on my LG dishwasher?
Water has collected in the base pan and lifted the leak float switch. The dishwasher stops and runs the drain pump. Find the source of the water — a door seal, sump gasket, hose, valve or oversudsing — before using it again.
Why does my LG dishwasher show OE?
Water did not drain. Clean the filter, check the air gap and disposal connection, and straighten the drain hose. If it still will not drain, the pump is likely bad.
